ICON Pro Broadcast-Quality Microphone

I selected this mic for use at my radio station after years of being a slave to the EV-RE20.
Honestly, while the RE-20 may be the crowned "industry standard" and fit the bill for many
the ICON Pro Broadcast Microphone boasts higher frequency response and (in my never to be humble
opinion) a more solid build than the RE-20.

From the moment I plugged this into my console & brought up the pot, listening through my
Beyerdynamic DT 770 can's, I was AMAZED & BLOWN away with the sonic clarity I was hearing.

Not that it really needs it, but just to add some extra icing on the cake & to add a little extra
sizzle to the sonic excellence which the ICON Pro Microphone provides, with some slight eq tweaking
to give my voice that sound I personally like, I knew for sure this was one investment I was
very happy making, and will likely slowly but surely will begin replacing those legacy re-20's
still in use at my station with the ICON Pro.

The old adage: You Get what You Pay For couldn't be any more true in the case of purchasing a
ICON Pro Broadcast-Quality Microphone. Does it cost more? YUP!.. Do you get more? ABSOLUTELY!
MORE Frequency Response, more clarity in voice reproduction, and I will add I'm now also a HUGE FAN
of the Triad-Orbit M2-R orbital short-stem ball-swivel design to standard threaded mic stands.
One of the really nice enhancements to this otherwise perfect mic that makes mic placement/position
a breeze, with confidence the mic will stay put!

If I could give this mic 10 starts, I would, but since 5 is the max, having used this for the past
several months, and even receiving unsolicited compliments from people who aren't technically adept
to know what may have changed, yet notice something sounds different (in a positive sense) that
feedback from listeners validates the investment we made in purchasing this mic.

More than I could ask for

I bought this mic after trying out a few different options. I started with the
Sennheiser e835, and used it for years as a mic for streaming and light music vocals and acoustic recordings. I started getting more serious about music production this past year and have been in search for a super neutral mic for crystal clear vocal and acoustic recording, and the Earthworks Icon pro does not disappoint. I started out trying the Shure SM57 and Sm7. both are absolutely incredible mics but didn't fit my exact needs - Specifically for room isolation. The room I record in has two incredibly power computers and multiple amps running, so not only are the computer fans running, I have a portable air conditioner sitting less than two feet from the bottom of the mic. With the SM57 and SM7 the audio recordings were passible for streaming purposes, but any musical recordings I had to move into another room to isolate noise. With the Icon pro, there is absolutely zero noise from the room recorded.

As far as the recording quality this mic is incredibly neutral, you won't get that "broadcaster" voice with this mic without some serious equalization - Which for me is the ideal sound. It was incredibly easy to balance the EQ to find the exact tone I was looking for in post for my vocal and acoustic recordings, nd the audio quality of my streams is noticable better. I honestly couldn't be happier with this mic. Crisp, Clear, Balanced/Neutral, and amazing room isolation. Whether you're looking to use this mic for Streaming/Podcasting or music production I HIGHLY recommend this mic.

Extremely impressed

Okay so I got this mic in yesterday in hopes that it would give me the same off axis noise rejection as the sm7b and allow me to work while the family is home. It does that, better, and more! So yes it's better than the sm7b at noise rejection, I'm not having to run a noise plug in to remove hiss anymore like I would with the sm7b, and the clarity is night and day! I'm a full time voice artist and would practically have to yell into the sm7b. With the icon pro I'm much more relaxed, and not straining my voice. I recorded today for 7 hours and my voice is not fatigued at all! With the sm7b, by hour 4, I would've already lost my voice. This was a great investment for spoken word.

Broadcast Microphone Quality Delivering "Sound Like Life" quality

It might sound like a paid review, but it isn't. I paid for this product. I was initially interested by the SV33 but the high price was something I couldn't accept for a broadcast microphone. When I heard about the ICON Pro, it was the perfect broadcast microphone on paper.

Earthworks claims of "Sound Like Life" are warranted. The sound coming out of this microphone is crazy good. Next to it, my Shure SM7B sounds so bland. You might argue that this is a condenser over dynamic but the Icon Pro pattern is actually pretty efficient and works similarly to my SM7B.

The included pop-filter system works well. You might still need an extra pop-filter if you talk very very close, but it's very good out of the box. Finish wise, this microphone is really well constructed, and looks like it's a very solid piece of gear that won't break anytime soon.

All in all, this is a crazy good sounding broadcast microphone for the price considering the rest of Earthworks product range.

earthworks icon pro

yes yes yes a condenser mic to compete with my dynamic mics. this mic is so crisp and clean [crispy clean]-- and its loud if you want covers the headroom well pop filter cancels out the outside sound. better than the shure sm7b--- and you can easly dial it in for that broad cast sound and its every bit as good as the sm7b for that also--- best all arroud mic
