Electro-Voice

collapse expand iconDescription

For over 50 years, the Electro-Voice RE20 Dynamic Cardioid Microphone has been the premier choice of recording studios and broadcasters worldwide. The RE20 delivers full-bodied, natural sound for vocals and instruments alike. Its Variable-D design and heavy-duty internal pop filter provide unmatched clarity and definition. An internal shockmount reduces vibration noise, allowing for ultra-low handling noise. The RE20 features a true cardioid pattern for maximum rejection of unwanted background noise. Its frequency response is tailored for vocals yet remains consistent regardless of proximity to the mic, avoiding the exaggerated bass of other mics. An easy "bass tilt-down" switch corrects the spectrum balance for long-distance miking or bass attenuation. With a rugged steel housing and humbucking coil, the RE20 is built to withstand the rigors of professional use while resisting electromagnetic interference. For vocal excellence and all-purpose studio performance, the Electro-Voice RE20 is the definitive standard.

Variable-D Design Delivers Natural Articulation

The RE20's innovative Variable-D design utilizes multiple ports and acoustic filters to reduce proximity effect and maintain tonal consistency across a wide range of distances from the mic. Vocals attain a rich yet balanced quality with natural articulation. The RE20 accurately captures the character of any voice or instrument, from subtle details to powerful dynamics. Its tailored frequency response focuses on the critical midrange while providing a smooth extended high-end and controlled lows.

Built for Broadcast and Beyond

Originally created for broadcast studios, the RE20's exemplary performance and rugged build have made it a mainstay in recording facilities worldwide. It's high SPL capacity suits close miking of loud sound sources, while the cardioid pattern rejects unwanted room ambience. The RE20 works equally well on air, in front of a vocal booth, even on the live stage. For podcasting, streaming, voiceovers, and more, the RE20 delivers professional results.

A Rock-Solid Reliable Performer

The RE20's solid-steel housing and humbucking coil guard against interference and physical damage. An integral double blast filter protects the internal element from wind noise, breath pops, and moisture. Its durable build and consistent performance over decades of use attest to its unparalleled reliability. With proper care and maintenance, a single RE20 can serve for a lifetime.

I use this for recording bass guitar cabinets, guitar cabinets, vocals (on occasion). Very balanced and generally neutral sound compared to, say, a 57, 421 or other dynamics. More of a low-mid punch, which works for mid range heavy or bright sources. Very versatile and great for a diverse microphone arsenal.

  • I would buy this mic again.

Used for voice recording demo, review, tutorial and other videos. This mic provided the best reproduction of my voice, even better than the legendary Shure SM7B, but then again this mic is also legendary across broadcast studios world-wide.

  • Great mic for the price!

I bought this microphone about 9 months ago and always thought it sounded off. After I spent a while messing with EQ, it sounded ok, but without it my voice does not sound like my voice at all. It sounds very whiney even though I have a deep voice. Is this normal with this microphone because I have not really seen other people experiencing this issue?

I would like to know if I should seek a replacement while I am still under warranty. My voice sounds ok after EQ, but I wonder if it would sound better if there really is a defect in my microphone affecting it.

Thank you,
Michael
